Baby Daddy

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

With Father’s Day just around the corner, we thought this FAQ would be a good one to share:

Just sorted through the mounds of wonderful gifts I received at my baby shower and realized, there’s nothing here for my husband. I feel bad! Any suggestions on how to include him in all this gift giving?

It’s true, when it comes to gifting, Dad’s are frequently left standing in the cold while Mommy and baby are swathed in bubble bath and blankies. We have found that every Baby Daddy likes a diaper bag of his own but won’t make the effort to get one. That’s where you come in. There are some great styles on the market designed specifically with dad in mind. Some even have a checklist on the inside flap so Dad remembers the essentials – diapers, wipes, and yes, even baby! Throw in a disposable camera and Daddy – and baby – are good to go.

If you have a baby-related product question that you’d like to send us for possible inclusion in our Ask The Baby Planners column, please contact us and mention Q&A in the subject box.

Proof Positive

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

You know those dish towels that hang from the oven door? And all those detergents and cleansers under the sink? Well, when baby starts to crawl, you’ll need to rethink both of those kitchen conveniences and countless other safety hazards throughout your home. Dish towels… a safety hazard?? When yanked and pulled on hard enough, yes they are!

Maybe the stairs and fire place are an obvious danger zone but when you hear that televisions, curtains, and even the coffee table can be treacherous, it’s time to start thinking about baby-proofing. While some of you are easily able to access your inner handyman, others may be in need of a “professional proofer.”

The good news is that the International Association for Child Safety has a searchable database of baby-proofers across the country. Prices vary but we’ve found that a reputable company will have a free consultation or apply an upfront fee to the baby-proofing products and/or installation. If it’s in your baby budget, it’s well worth the cost and baby will safely be able to explore the wonders of her own home.

Happy Days!

We couldn’t have asked for a better Mother’s Day present – a weekend spent in the company of our teen crush, Scott Baio. We may be happily married with kids of our own, but when it comes to Chachi, we have three words for you….wah, wah, wah!

America’s Favorite Mom!

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

We’re sure you all have a favorite Mom, but we wanted to introduce you to one of The Baby Planners’ picks for America’s Favorite Mom – Lisa Druxman. Last week we had the pleasure of hanging out with Lisa and her lovely Mom, Bonnie. Not only is Lisa one of our mentors and friends, she is the amazing Mom behind Stroller Strides. In case you aren’t familiar with it, this is a “total fitness program for Moms and their babies” and definitely worth checking out if you’re a new Mom in need of fun, friends and fitness.

Pregnancy Awareness Month

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Anna Getty – yogi, mom, heiress and friend of The Baby Planners’, May is now officially Pregnancy Awareness Month - yay! We recently attended the inaugural event at the Skirball Cultural Center here in Los Angeles.

There was an amazing panel discussion with Pre & Post Natal experts, a Work/Life Balance round table discussion with Cookie Magazine’s Executive Editor Alanna Stang, and yes even a yummy organic lunch! A portion of the proceeds from the event benefited Healthy Child Healthy World.

The goal of PAM is to empower pregnant women and it got off to a tremendous start. Check out their website for more information — you’ll be glad you did!
